في باكستان تشكل العبوات الناسفة تحديا خطيرا لعمليات الجيش الباكستاني في وادي سوات، حيث أن معظم خسائره تقع نتيجة تعرض دورياته لمثل هذه العبوات. كما يواجه الجيش تحدي العمليات الانتحارية وقلة مهابط المروحيات بسبب التضاريس الجبلية. وإلى جانب هذا تأتي قلة خبرة الجيش بحرب العصابات لتزيد الامور تعقيدا.
