  • Ok so after I make the rocks myself I simply soak them in fresh water in a tub for about a week until the ph is balanced...before I place them I'n my saltwater fish tank do I have to cure them in a container of salt with a fan are something before I place them in my salt water tank?

  • @hollabacknow8557 yes, until the pH is balanced... min one month, but it can take 3 or more... You need to change the water twice a week. You want a pH of 7.6-7.8 with fresh water. The reason to make your own rock is so you can have the shapes you want and it is cheaper. In no way shape or form is it a fast way. Have patience or you will end up with dead fish. When you purchase live rock a lot of the life on it dies off, and you have to cure it before you put it with fish. DIY rock has no life.

  • Greenmaster one..I have a question..I'm just starting my saltwater tank from scratch... I was told that since its new and no fish are in it that after I make the rock after it hardens I can just place it in the tank I don't have to presoak it..is that right or wrong info? All I have in the tank now is the salt...and the sand and I put the stuff in the tank to kill the chlorine and bad stuff in tap water..someone said after I make the rock from scratch after it hardens I can just put it in

  • @hollabacknow8557 if you want to use your tank as the "tub" than that would work. I wouldn't add any salt until the pH is balanced. you'll still have to flush the rocks for a good month or two. again this advice is based on having your homemade rock.

  • But watch the pH of the tank closely if it starts to go up after adding the rocks you should take them out and soak them longer.

  • now that all the rock is made can you please make a video on how to cure it for a saltwater tank? thats the last step i need and what do you need to and the proper steps to take to get it ready to place in the salt water tank

  • @hollabacknow8557 you need a container big enough to hold of the rocks. you soak the rocks in water for long time. after about a month or 2 changing the water frequently, you need to soak it in salt water. if you have a tank already you can use the water leftover from the partial water changes. once the ph drops to an acceptable level then you can add it to your tank.
