For the droid x you can get a mount for GPS capabalites with google maps, called the car mount, just use the aux cable plus cigaret lighter adapter and you can get all the gps capablities with out the law breaking

Google Map with Navigation Beta does turn by turn and I think its the best on a phone or portable I've personally use because it use more then GPS it use cell tower as well so quite accurate even in NYC. This is on a HTC Incredible.
