This video is dedicated to my friend Wilfried ! ;-)
This is a famous tune for Ukulele, here it is played on a renaissance guitar made by Stephen Murphy.
For more picts of the guitar see :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DrhLpxX4EvE
The Renaissance guitar have the exact same tuning as the ukulele : GCEA. The size is a little bit bigger than a baryton (55 cm string length) and strings are low tension (here Aquila, and Carbon for the fourth) and strings are double, except the first. The fourth is composed of two G, an high G outside, and a low G inside. (can be the opposite for a low G effect, both tuning were in use at the renaissance.)
So you can play renaissance music on the ukulele, and ukulele music on the renaissance guitar (for me the real origin of the portugese instruments, then of the ukulele...)

  • this sounds lovely val! :) j'aime :)

  • Perhaps you mean sound of double strings ? (Here Aquila Nylgut) Should not sound too metallic (your headphones are good enough ??? lol)

In fact as said it is not an ukulele but a renaissance guitar made by Stephen Murphy (lute maker) (look my lute channel for link and other videos of this instrument and many other)

  • Very special one indeed ;-)

  • I found it a bit weird, at least for picking ;) ... very full sound for strumming however. There two common models: 8 string ukes with 4 double strings, and 6 string ukes with 2 double and 2 single strings.

    Regards, Wilfried
