@jopeteus A capacitor, they hold electronic charge and delver voltage to part of the system.

@jopeteus You will need to desolder the old cap and replace it with a new one, it is highly recommended that you use the same type of cap. Or you could just pick up a new megadrive from ebay for £10.00 eaither ways a winner.
