These i1200 ThinkPads are rare now. AFAIK, they were manufactured under license by Acer. (In fact, there are lots of old lappies and their models that get rarer and rarer as time goes on.)

there is a flat style screw on the front-left-bottom side {if upright} and after unscewing that you remove a cover with on the side near the screw{there is a raised tab there}
once that is removed there is a {in my case} a blue ribbon to tug on ... mine was very hard to remove so be careful it is in there real snugg ... the hard drive also has a fitting on the end for the custom pata connector ont he mother board so if replacing remember to reuse that ;)
