I believe that light is based on the NEMA standard ring and barrier design. Hard to tell from your description and the video, but that is the standard design.

Ah, brings back memories for me...when I was in grad school at U of A from late 1994-early 1996, I used to go through this intersection at least twice a day to and from classes. Thanx for the trip down memory lane!
