  • It's kinda funny actually... I was going over my old game collection and looking at gaming videos for them. This is one of those games from my childhood that I actually pretty much mastered. Many many hours were spent playing this and oddly enough Top Gun. The pit in this game, and landing in Top Gun are simple tasks to me at this point. I love this game for probably all the wrong reasons.

  • This game is the Pitts!

  • anyone else think of Thunderstruck when they saw the title

  • I have that game for gameboy.

  • Cole Trickle = Tim Richmond (RIP)

  • @Sac077 I WONDER WHAT'S GONNA HAPPEN NEXT

  • @kiaelinkx plane = 2D, different heights = +1 dimension? It just doesn't provide the degree of freedom as Quake. In fact, you can have GLDoom and you don't have to make up for any lack of data. But I do agree that in the end, it doesn't matter much. Doom is cool as hell.

  • @neostriderbzk directly from wikipedia:

Doom levels are not truly three-dimensional; they are internally represented on a single plane, with height differences stored separately as displacements. (A similar trick is still used by many games to create huge outdoor environments.)

Seems like we are both right on our arguments somehow XD

  • @kiaelinkx Any turing-complete machine can display 3D graphics if attached to a pixel-capable display device. Its only a matter of being easy to do so and being fast. The point of being slow is a reasonable argument, but if you see hardrivin`, you know some folks can actually do it. And about Doom, it is just as 3D as Halo. The only thing is that it uses a lot more sprites. What might look as 2.5D is that Carmack limited the way you construct levels so to optimize for the machines of that age.

  • @kiaelinkx haha sorry. Well, Im just 27, but you know what I meant.
