NASA Managers have decided to scrub the launch of space shuttle Discovery for mission STS-133 until Tuesday, Nov. 30 to allow the proper time to fix the Ground Umbilical Carrier Plate, or GUCP, an attachment point between the external tank (ET) and a 17-inch pipe that carries gaseous hydrogen safely away from Discovery to the flare stack, where it is burned off, and to address a crack on the ET intertank flange. Launch on Nov. 30 would be scheduled for 4:05 a.m. EDT. Mission Managers held a news conference at the Kennedy Space Center to discuss their decision with the media on Friday, November 5.
