I do hope they go with what they originally planned:

In that as Nano-Rimmer is running through the exploding Dwarf, he is rescued by Ace Rimmer, who is OUR Rimmer, and they go and get the rest of the dwarfers back and find a dimension with a vacant red dwarf and the Rimmers swap over. Makes sense.

@GTAIVFan17 When you think about it, Red Dwarf herself has now had 2 Rimmer Holograms, the 1st one that ended up becoming a continuation of Ace Rimmer, and the 2nd one that came online after the obvious death of Rimmer after he went a kicked death in the balls at the end of Series VIII, this 2nd Rimmer Hologram we therefore see in Back to Earth and the new Series of Red Dwarf in 2012.
