Andreas Helgstrand with Gredstedgaards Casmir at the World Cup show in Odense November 2007. They got a third place in the Kur final, after Jan Brink with Briar(2) and Isabell Werth with Warum Nicht(1).
Casmir is a 9 year old (at this show 8) gelding. In 2007 Andreas and Casmir also won gold at the Danish Championship in Dressage.
unfortunately for non-danish speakers the interview is in Danish.

Translation of Interview:
A = Andreas Helgstrand
I = Interviewer
I: Andreas Helgstrand how is you satisfied with becoming number 3 at the seasons first world cup?
A: Super satisfied, that is the one that become number 1 and the that became number 2 are among the 5 best horses in the world, and I come with a new horse and it goes in and becomes number 3, really that is fantastic.
I: But this is only the beginning of a very long season, what is its main purpose for you?
A: For me it is mainly about that Casmir has to become stronger and stronger. Because he is half the age as the horse that became number 2, he has really, he is behind when it come to muscles and strength. I have to work on getting Denmark qualified for OL, it is my biggest task, it is not so much this World Cup part, do I get this included, fine enough, but it is not something I'm going for at all, it is basically that we just need to go to this OL.
I: But you get to OL by riding in points at these world cups, so you must gain some more points, how do you look forward to the coming shows?
A: Well I look well forward to them, but it has a lot to do with that it is the 8 best shows that counts from May until May. And I have the 8 shows now, having ridden the two here and it looks really good. But then it is that you can improve, remove the worst and improve them with time. And it is clear that the horse will become better and better and should be able to take home more and more points. So it is clear if I ride more shows I might improve my position, but it looks really good, it does.
I: This horse is a bit down in the hierarchy compared to your best horses, you're of cause hoping to come to OL, but this one won't be the contestant, will it?
A: Well, as said Matine when she was 8 years old she didn't go like this, and it went to world championship at the age of 9, and there is WEG at the same time as there is OL, and it is clear that Casmir that will also be 9 at the time and if he improves with same power as it has done now, well then it will be just as good. But it is clear that Matine is my first choice, it is very certain.
I: The white horse Matine?
A: The white horse yes.
I: Thank you
A: You're welcome

  • who the hell is he riding now?

  • I don't really know, he is starting his own stable where he is going to buy young horses and then train them. Though I guess he is still going to ride Casmir since it's not a Blue Hors.

  • does anyone know if Andreas speaks english?

  • As far as I know he speaks both Danish, English, German and Swedish.

  • Very nice.....Blue hors matine is much more exciting, if not the better choice for the olympics. Andreas is already a star performer because of Matine. Please let Matine perform in the olympics!!!!

  • Unfortunately Matine is not ready yet, she has not recovered completely from her injury, plus she is only 11 years old so Andreas don't want to take the risk of taking her to the olympics.

    I think Casmir is good second choice, at this show he is only 8 years old. Of cause Matine has that bit extra. But Casmir has a lot to offer as well, he is still very young and developing. I for sure look forward to see him at the olympics.

  • May i use this clip in a video i want to make ? credit with go to youu :)

  • It is remarkable how well Sune Hansen is repairing this poor horse after Helgstrand's ruinous riding. It always made me nauseous to watch him 'ride' Casmir. So insensitive, such harsh hands, always too deep and never properly over the back.

  • GERMAN! WOOT!

  • Dressage is on a completely different scale then cross country! I love cross country but i also love cross country because its beautiful, if you watch a good round you know it, its like comparing eq to hunters, hunters is single outside diagonal outside diagonal and so on, eq is fun turns work offs and stuff

  • i was just thinking the same thing. its like his horses love to do this! its like the greatest racehorses LOVE to run! the greatest show jumpers LOVE to jump! his horses LOVE to do dressage!

  • all of the horses that andreas helgstrand ride somehow turn out amazing. the horse's self carriage is amazing compared to others

  • Casmir is still owned by Blue Hors and Andreas will not be riding him anymore.

    Andreas will not mainly be buying and training young horses now but Grand Prix horses. He now has a new star Carabas. Look out for him!
