Here is a little advice: instead of putting the sugar in the espresso base, which is really a bad practice, put it in the milk prior to steaming, which is a great practice. Better yet, add vanilla along with sugar to the milk prior to steaming. This will result in a steamed milk that is similar in taste and consistency to molten vanilla ice-cream, and a one that blends extremely well with some coffees (e.g. Ethipean, mocha or most Italian espresso blends).
