The U.K. is on the brink of an obesity epidemic, one that will cost as additional $90 billion per year by 2050, says a study released Wednesday.

The Foresight Report, a government-led research project, says that by 2050, 60 per cent of adult men, 50 per cent of adult women and about 25 per cent of all children under 18 could be obese.

"Britain has become a nation where overweight is the norm," reads the report.

  • How come Hong Kong People aren't fat then? They have all the same technologies! Could it be that they eat fresh food every day, not ready meals and there are no family packs of biscuits and giant bottles of Coke in their homes. My student, Jeff, right here says he eats bananas and apples for snacks. He eats an unhealthy type snack once or twice a week. And he is not fat at all and glows with health as do all my students.

  • I was on vaction in Spain and 80% of the britts were obese, not fat or overweight but really dangerously obese! It was chocking to withess and very sad especially since many of the children also were, not obese yet, but fat.

  • Why are British people so surprised?

That have been clearly influenced by the AmericaniZation of Britain (especially England)!

  • I don't know how it is in the British school system, but a huge part of the problem in the USA are the dietary patterns formed in school aged children. I had to pick up my son from school years ago and was shocked to find candy and soda vending machines in the cafeteria. Yeah, getting 12-year-olds hopped up caffeine and sugar is a great idea! Ugh...

Fast food nation and supersize me went into this quite a bit, and the lobbying groups that advocate for these stupid things.

  • @Tomskicat CBC is Canadian

  • Self-discipline IS the answer you stupid fucks. Eat less calories and exercise. That's the fucking solution.

  • I started gaining weight. I altered my diet (oatmeal for breakfast) and exercising a mere 20 minutes each morning. Since then I lost the weight i gained and I didn't even have any help from the government. I wish people would stop being victims and start taking some personal responsibility.

  • Of course - everyone is a victim and the solution is even more government intervention. What a bunch of liberal crap.

  • I love it when a 300 pound 5 foot 3 english bloke calls all americans obese while he's in a room full of obese people.

  • @Tomskicat This was a CBC report. Canadian broadcasting company.

  • Lazy & hungry ???? hm.....
