are they portable? (i mean at your neck) or are they too big and too heavy to wear them in the city?

These headphones are actually pretty light and I have no problem wearing them around my neck. It's easy to just pull them off from your head and keep the music playing around your neck while talking with people.

These Audio Technicas would greatly suit your needs, especially if you plan on using them with an mp3 player. These run great without a headphone amp if you don't have one, and will also run great off of your laptop.
