President Mwai Kibaki has directed that all SIM-card holders to be registered within six months. The President says the move is aimed at fighting crime using cellular technologies in recent times. In a speech read by Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka at the 10th anniversary celebrations of the Communications Commission of Kenya, the president ordered an elaborate databank on mobile telephone subscribers.
the practice of simcard registration was long overdue, this among other measures should be used to trace criminals in their dungeons, besides it brings order in the corrupt and chaotic mobile network providers.

Technologically you need not register a sim card in order to track its location. The politics of sim card registration is simply and squarely propelled by the lateness of Kenya Telkom to participate in the mobile phone market. Now they are using thorax methods to gain entry, too late. The acquisitive minded phone providers are not criminologists. Since when did they discard their pursuit of profit to mind about the welfare of Kenyans. Gun control, not sim card, would reduce crime rate.

Finally moving into 21st Century...its a deterrence for criminals using the network to organize crime...or planning a fresh wave of violence against other Kenyans!

Kalonzo needs to be arrested ASAP for inciting Kivuitu to rig the election in 2007-2008. And for kissing Kibaki.
