The tone that chet gets from his guitar in this old standard is nothing short of incredible! Add in that sax with it's amazing bite, and this Chet tune is a sure winner!

  • This isn't "Salty Dog Rag" it's "Salty Dog Blues". Salty Dog Rag is an old dance tune - google it and watch the videos. Salty Dog Blues (with lyrics) can be heard on Nick Spitzer's "American Routes", the August 24th program - "Records, Jukeboxes and Radio".

  • @FDAgal I appreciate the input. I took the title directly off the Chet album, exactly as it is printed on the album cover.. That's what Chet (or his producers) preferred to call it, so if it's good enough for Chet it's good enough for me.

  • I love Chet's tone on this one!

  • yep again

  • this song is stuck in my head all the fuckin time!

  • yep

  • I'm guessing it's Charlie McCoy on harmonica...he did most of the session work in those days.

  • Oh my gosh, haven't even thought about this song in years. Nice inclusion. Love the harmonica too!

  • rockin there chet ,,,,,,,,,,harp player ??

  • this sounds more like the "Salty dog Blues" which was a hit for flatt and scruggs rather than the "Salty dog rag" which was a hit for Red Foley.
