Boe-Bot robot by Parallax. Assembled on the boe-bot platform and programmed onto an embedded BASIC Stamp microprocessor by Chris Andrews as part of Professor Thomas Goulding's System Architecture course at Daniel Webster College. This robot is completely autonomous, running algorithms to make decisions based on the environment around it.

  • Awesome mam how long did it take you to program and get all the kinks out

  • @RKAOS1230 I think I had about a month in class to do the project (2 classes per week, so 8 classes periods total). Prior to starting this final project, we had done experiments with each of the sensors (and other sensors that weren't used on this) so I was already quite familiar with how everything worked.

  • Sorry for all the messages, but this is probably my last one, should i order ultrasonic sensors too? Like right now? so when i learn how to use it i dont have to wait for it to ship, also, whats the line follower called? THANKS!

  • @stand6666 I think it actually comes with two IR sensors which is what I used for the ground detection. It could tell the difference between black and white, and I used 3 sensors to follow. The "eyes" are a PING sensor which sends out a sonar pulse to test for distance. The "neck" is a servo, much like the one to control the wheels.

  • I downloaded the program on my mini laptop too make sure it will work, which it does. But do i need soldering equiptment?

  • @stand6666 Nope. I'm pretty sure I just used a few screwdrivers and maybe some pliers. Go to Parallax .com and click Education and then Tutorials and then download the Robotics with the Boe-Bot text file and check it out. It guides you through various parts so you'll understand how everything works.

  • Can you help me out with the coding? Ive got the sensor installed and have a few programs running but all mine studder as it changes from moving forward to scanning forward. How did you get yours to be so seamless?

  • Man*

  • Thanks very much! I can hardly wait to get it now! But how long do you think from no knowledge at all it would take me to learn how to program it to navigate?

  • @stand6666 If you go with the Boe-Bot kit (by Parallax Robotics for about $160), it comes with a tutorial book about how to use various sensors (or you can download the Robotics with the Boe Bot manual off their website). Note that Boe-Bot runs on a BASIC STAMP processor, which uses a modified form of BASIC (instead of C++) and comes with it's own development environmet (like Visual Studio except very simple)
