Task Force 1942 by Microprose, released in 1992. This was a naval simulation game with 3D rendered ships and enviroment. Therefore, to run this game a massive 386 processor with a whopping 2 MB RAM was reqired :P

In the game, the surface naval battles between the US and Japanese fleets around the Solomon Islands during 1942 could be relived. It contained a campaign modus as well, in which bombard, patrol and supply missions could be carried out. The best part imo was the simulated encounter, in which fleets up to 16 ships per side could battle each other.

  • One of the best games of all time... I would do ridiculous things to see a modern upgrade!

  • ahh memories. This was such a great game. Just right amt of realism and game play mixed. I was very interested in the battle of Guadalcanal also.

  • I loved this game, why cant they do a modern upgrade but keep the same game engine. it was superb, and I loved the mission builder. I used to see how many Destroyers it would take to sink Yamato!!

    Great days

  • this brings back memories, on my 286 pc was like 12 floppy discs to install. good times. The boxes for these games where massive how times have changed.

  • I agree with the other guys.. A great game! It had a real entertainment value,, total fun which is so hard to find in modern games. Way ahead of it's time in terms of graphics and gameplay. The historical setting was also great.. I loved the battles with the islands moving in the background and creating tactical interest..

  • For a game almost 20 years old, it's amazing how good the graphics and sounds are!

  • Download DOSBOX and play TF1942 within a modern Windows operating system!

  • Never mind one of the greatest games of all time wsmith01; how about one of the greatest game publishers of all time?!!!
