What is wrong with American pple.
Why cant they release Jap games in America just the way they are.
Why do they have to remove the opening and ending movies, change the story, change the music etc.
American pple cant understand the beauty of Jap games.

@Alastair l love the Persona games and the obscure atmosphere surrounding them. l started with the 3rd on PS2 and ever since then l got hooked on. Recently l had the chance to buy the 1st one but l haven't played it yet (too busy playing other games).
For me, JRPGs dn WRPGs are two diffrent sides of the same coin : we don't seek the same things when we play them. Nowadays, JRPGs try to be more western-like and vice versa so l predict in the near future a complete fusion between the two.

@Heroinedown I just remembered another example of awful butchering, but it also comes from the past and has since been fixed. The original release of Persona in the U.S. The PSP version makes up for that.
Also, I contest the belief that American gamers don't appreciate JRPGs. It's just that JRPG fans are antagonistic towards one another and WRPG fans and non-RPG players are very vocally against them and judge them all based on a select few games. I've also enjoyed a few WRPGs.

@Alastair "Another claim that is obviously false", dude, that would be the only one actually since he was right for the rest. lt's just that a majority of american gamers don't appreciate JRPGs as much as Europe for instance. They need this liberty to create a character and to go through the story as they see fit but the problem is this new character is deprived of charisma and personality and there ain't that many choices in the end. Now l like both genre but to me, the most intense is JRPG.

@Alastair l don't know much about stories being changed in recent games and since l don't own every games, l can't say for sure if it's happening or not. All l know is that for the Dragon Ball games back on the super famicom, the translation was often not following the orirginal dialogues at all so l wouldn't be surprised if for some games, they still changed details of the story just so that other consumers understand the references made in the game.

@Heroinedown I also don't really know too much about Strategy RPGs. I also thought of other cases of removal of music. Older Tales games even as recent had the OP music altered. The newest games leave them intact. Another claim that is obviously false is the one made about American gamers not being able to understand the beauty of Japanese games. It's clear this person is making a ridiculous judgment of a large and diverse group of people based on the decisions of localization teams.

@Heroinedown I know that story, and I don't agree with S-E's decision in that factor. A similar event that happened relatively recently was Cavia's creation of a second version of Nier due to their perception of how the western audience would perceive the main character. Both versions were released in Japan. By the way, I'm only familiar with things that happened with RPGs, and the claims I most challenge are that the story is changed significantly or that this happens commonly and recently.
this is 3 not 5

@Ryusg7 Just watch the last ten seconds of the movie and you'll know you're wrong.
You're half wrong because the US PSP port of this game has been named Legend of Heroes III. Check its wiki page !
