If you are a classic rock fan this was a great night to be out on the pavement in Piccadilly. It was a Classic Rock Magazine event at the Park Lane Hotel to honour the best in the business. The rain held off, though being November, having a few extra layers on was a good idea. There was a bit of a carpet and an ineffective rope barrier between us and the stars as they leapt out of their limos dropping them off on this main road. Legends from USA and UK paraded past me. There were plenty from the professional autograph hunting community manning the drop off area so there was much commotion as stars arrived and plenty competition to see who could get the most signatures. Some of the stars were very happy to sign and pose as much as folk wanted. Some rationed the signing to one, some like Cream drummer Ginger Baker just headed right in and did not stop for anyone. It was a big thrill to be close to the gods of rock, even if Im not very familiar with much of their output, the names are legend. Billy Gibbons, Ginger Baker, Brian May, Uriah Heep, Ronnie Wood, Paul Rogers, Iggy Pop, Pete Townshend and many more showed up. I spent much longer at this gig that I should have done, staying there till after one in the morning to try to capture everyone I wanted. When it got late, security whisked them away after the event so my late stay was pretty much a bust when I could have been at home in the warm editing.

Yes, it's so nice to see Tempest among those English rock stars that he seems to like so much! A big artist among biggest artists.
But something is surprising here: English stars aren't they supposed to be the most eccentric in the world? They all look so ordinary! Only Swedish Joey Tempest gets a rather original (and elegant) jacket.
A Swedish more original than an English: what's the world coming to?
