A&R Waltzer load pulled by the Attkinson 8 Wheeler "The Lion" had to stop on the hill on route to paignton regatta pull on due to traffic and could not pull away again. A quick tow from another unit and all is well again. Look carefully at one point is anyone driving the lorry yet it is still moving. Well Done BRIAN!

  • Im pretty sure I have the DVD to this.

I bet the driver's heart stopped hoping the

    breaks would hold out.

  • @rbtlv

Yes pretty scary moment I suspect. The center truck was always far too heavy for the 8 Wheerler which only had a Gardner 120 engine! Shame though as these where real fairground loads which seem to have all but dissapeared now with Artics and tri axle trailers!!

  • what weight is on this..when he stops it rolling the front lifts up off the ground

  • @britdemo - there is a lot of weight on this lorry and the heavy 6 wheel centre truck does not help. I dont think today you would get this passed on a weighbridge!!

  • Brilliant to see these old vehicles still working for a living ;)

How long ago was this filmed?

  • @NitroNoriFan I think this was 1997 or 98

  • what was it like to work on the waltzer?

  • @dodgemgreaser Must have been later than that. there is an early Vauxhall Corsa in the film, which was launched in '93

  • @Dexter130394 - Video is from about 1990

  • do you have any more old videos or photos of torbay in the 90s. I would love to see torbay before they built the two way road at dartmough road by the bus station when it was 1 way. I'd also love to see any old video clips of torbay road from early 90s.

  • Yes the 1960's & 70s were a great time to watch the fair arriving.

I try to collect travelling fairground model transport based on that era,

I have a short clip of them on youtube, but my video has made them look

    a bit stumpy.
