The Washington University in St. Louis department of athletics hosted a Celebration of Champions to honor the 2009 NCAA Division III national champion volleyball team and the national runner-up women's soccer team on Sunday, Feb. 7, at the WU Field House in St. Louis, Missouri. The event featured speeches from university administrators, head coaches and student-athletes, in addition to the presentation of the national championship rings to the volleyball team and the unveiling of the 2009 national championship banner. Following the ceremony the volleyball team signed championship posters for fans in attendance.
The volleyball team won its NCAA record 10th national championship with a 3-1 win over Juniata College on Nov. 21, in University Heights, Ohio. The women's soccer team advanced to the national championship game for the first time in school history, falling to Messiah College, 1-0, on Dec. 5, in San Antonio, Texas.
