who said anything about kumbaya? Both Taiwan and South Korea went from dictatorship to democracy. It's not implausible to think that China could follow a similiar path. Even PRC gov. officials and intellectuals privately discuss their desire for serious change.

The PRC has been a murderous dictatorship since Mao famously said political power comes out of the barrel of a gun. That's still the foundation of power in Beijing.

Korea has been partitioned since, well, the Korean War. And you think it's plausible that the dictators of China and North Korea are going to be inspired to embrace democracy???

Great job. My U.S. Gov teacher in high school made us write letters to our congressmen with regards to China. This was back in 1999 and he told us that China is our biggest threat.

We thought he was old and crazy, now I'm starting to think otherwise.

@xiongmu the people of china must rise up and demand that the ccp reform itself out of existance and allow free elections, then the kmt and dpp can partake in those elections. then people will chose. you cannot have democracy with communism. the problem is that the people are placated by a stable and thriving economy and have no incentive to complain. its only when the economy collapses or falters enough, that the people will rise up. they are already demostrating there now but its not enough.

that gradual transformation to a democratic system cannot happen under communism not matter how different it is now compared to the days of mao. the commies are still commies. they only want total power and control. the u.s. electing a black president is hardly a fair comparison. also obama, is not black. his mother was white. the people of china must transform themselves by first rising up and demanding the ccp reform themselves out of existance and demand free elections like the old ussr.

the chinese are not be trusted.. the same could be said about the USA.. but if the USA was not here the chinese and russians iranians and all those communist dictators and faschists would all be attacking us... the world is becoming extremely insecure and the bottom line is the mind set of the leaders of most countries is that of survival of the fittest and that is leading to  collision that should not be..humans are just stupid and dont understand the word fairness
