This poor fella was found Wed. July 16, 2008 lying in a yard near the paper mill in Cantonment. He was starving, dehydrated, his distended belly was full of parasites, he was dehydrated, his gums were pale, he was weak, he's got mange/ringworm, etc. He could barely walk. He was left there to DIE. How could anyone leave a puppy to starve to death in their yard? I had these same folks busted in Nov. '06 for the SAME THING! I called Animal Control on them for neglect and the owner was arrested. They allowed a chained puppy with no shelter, food, or water, to starve. They had another puppy chained to a fence with no food, water, or shelter. Escambia County Animal Control came out back then and took the puppies. The emaciated one died from his condition in the shelter. The other one was euthanized after the court case. He would have been euthanized anyway since the county doesn't adopt out pit bulls. Today, I was not going to allow a repeat of those tragedies. I whisked him away from that yard and took him home for medical treatment and FOOD. He's a red nose/caramel brindle pit mix about 5 to 6 weeks old. He has such beautiful eyes. If ever a puppy deserves a GREAT home, it's this little fella.

UPDATE 7/22/08 *Petey* was rushed to the vet clinic this AM in critical condition. He needs a blood transfusion because he has a very enlarged spleen, possibly due to a tick-borne pathogen that causing red blood cell destruction. He also has Coccidia, so all that on top of his emaciated state makes for a very sickly pup. I wish that the monsters that caused him to suffer so could experience the same plight. Please say a prayer for this baby.

Petey is being treated at:

Chemstrand Oaks Vet. Hospital

UPDATE 7/23/08
*Petey* was euthanized this AM. He was in critical condition with a very enlarged spleen caused by red blood cells being destroyed. He was so weak with labored breathing. Between the emaciation, anemia, internal parasites, etc. the vet said that even with aggressive treatment his chances of survival were slim to none. I couldn't let Petey suffer anymore than he already had. I prayed for a miracle because he'd been through hell at a tender young age and I really wanted him to have a chance at a good life. Before he crossed the rainbow bridge, I promised him I'd keep up the good fight for all the the other animals suffering at the hands of humans.

My heartfelt thanks go to Dr. Elliot at Chemstrand Oaks Vet. Hospital for his compassion in trying to save Petey.

This brief video was taken just before Petey was euthanized.
