Elephant Walk by Donald Jenkins & his Delighters is like a four part mini symphony charted in 1963. The concert starts with a cymbal crash, some talking, then takes you to Africa where a Native Girl sways her hips and puts a boy from the south side of Chicago in a trance. The tune changes gears again at the end with jungle sounds, crazy melodies, always haunting me-e. All completed in two minutes 41 seconds.
gongggg gonggg (cymbals clash)
(spoken) When your stomach speaks
you forget your man
When your man speaks
you forget your heart
but when your heart speaks,
you forget everything

(sings) ohhh, the night was splendid and serene
yes, when a native girl wiggled right into my dreams
She-ee did a little dance
it seemed so popular
mmmmm and I loss my heart in darkest Africa
Thank you for using Top40db.com.

She did a dance
it brought romance
The Elephant Walk
and whoa whoa whoa those swaying hips-a
they put me in a trance
mmmmm all at once I began to dance
the feeling, yeah yeah yeah yeah
is paradise I know
for an American boy from the south side of Chicago
Elephant Walk ohhhhhh
la la lourd lord lord
crazy memories
laud laud laudy laudy Lord
If they knew what I know
there wouldn't be no wars
there only be time for a little girl and boy
crazy melodies, always haunting me
crazy melodies, always haunting me-eee

  • Hey Devpdko

Woa, a promo, guess you got a goodie there. Yes, the beat can be a cha-lypso dance back in the day. Remember, a cross between the cha-cha and calyspo.

    Pittsburgh had good taste, too.

  • Vashon High school 1963 Donnie Hawaway, Jo JO white, Ronnie K Robinson, greay song

  • Hi Ronn What is the connection of Vashon high? Who are the people listed here? Donnie Hawaway, Jo Jo and Ronnie? Did Donald Jenkins go to Vahson High? Is he really Hawaway? Tell us more....

    Thanks,

    Ally

  • Hi kary, thanks for adding my missed lyrics. This record is an all time classic is right. So much going on in one song. Clang, animal sounds, haunting lyrics, and your mom played this song. Thank you for listening and sharing your story.

  • Every kid should grow up in a house hip enough to play the incredible Donny & the Delighters' Elephant Walk. "When your stomach speaks, you forget your mind" - great! Thanks for posting.

  • Ivy "But when your mind speaks, you forget everything, ohhh the night was beautiful and serene......"Don't u luv it?"

the native girl crept right into his dream. Wow!!
