  • What an incredible era in Formula one, 1200hp. Wow my god. I started watching F1 in 1998 and have watched every GP since, sadly i wasn't able to watch this era, great cars though, beautiful machines.

  • 1.6 lt turbo v6 is back B)

  • @man710r If you watch the boost gauge (right hand large gauge) you can see the car is making about 50 psi when he's on it. That's not far off race boost. In qualifying they used up to 65-70 psi.

Boost doesn't necessarily kill the engines. High RPM for long periods is what wears them.

  • @andriusssska Paul Ricard has an enormous straight, that was shortened in 1986 after Elio de Angelis died.

The modern tracks don't have straights long enough to reach speeds like that, but I think 215 mph is probably within range of many modern F1 cars.

The modern F1 cars have more downforce and are much faster in the corners. It is this which largely determines the lap times of compared cars.

Power is no good if the wheels spin and the car slides off the track when the driver tries to use it.

  • Real race cars! not the fart boxes that we have today...

  • @daljeet2 you can find torrents of lots of old races. you should invest!

  • @andriusssska thank you for replying

  • @cocacolaholic '> Of course 1986 car would win. Today cars would go faster till around 150 mph, because has better gearbox and better traction. But later, POWER IS POWER. For example in 1986 Hungary, in qualifing speed trap sometimes was over 320 km/h (200 mph) .. Today cars doing around 290 km/h (180 mph). The Speed trap in Poul Ricard circuit in 1986 was over 215 MPH !!! .. LAst years in Testing modern F1 cars was just going at 190 mph .
