Speak of the devil, we had a meeting today about HP machines, we have received too many complaints about them so have to recommend other manufacturers like Lexmark and Brother instead. Mass produced crap does tend to malfunction after the warranty ends thats why they set it to that time period, rigorous testing finds the end of service life.
I got L7780 the same thing, just like if it is programmed to die after the warranty expires. more over they say we do not fix all-in-one, if it was on the warranty we would have replaced it. I asked the support should i through it away in the trash? he said i am sorry, a kind way of saying Yes.

Stand alone units are pretty obsolete now anyway, MFP all-in-one units are much more financially viable.

That what they will tell you , and that what it says in the manual, but it does not , you have to specify an IP address and hope it works
