Lowe's gardening expert, Erika Vetrini, explains three different garden bugs that can cause serious damage to your vegetable garden and how to kill them: tomato hornworms, aphids and cabbage loopers. Also learn what bugs are good for your garden, such as the praying mantis. For more helpful gardening videos like this one, visit http://www.Lowes.com/GrowAlong
You are spending too much time fighting out of balance populations of insects. If you would plant plants with a higher diversity, your loss would be around 10% to 15%. Try using companion planting methods or sacrificial plants. These methods can be found in books starting from 1800s to 1960s. Modern books tend to lead to chemical control. These methods do not work for mechanical harvesting machines, but from the pictures posted in the video, it looks hand grown; so, it will work.

ORRR, you could take the hornworms and throw them on a sacrifical cherry tomato plant, giving you the population of amazing adult moths and a population of caterpillar-regulating parasites.

I doubt that Erika Vetrini has ever had to deal with aphids, for she should have said that aphids tend to be on the underside of the leaves where the spray will be more beneficial than on the tops. Crops must be controlled every day to wipe out any developing colony of aphids. They are not very easy to get rid of once established. It is also as important to get rid of the ants that nurture them and protect them from beneficial insects.
