An online acquaintance wanted to see me play, so I recorded a few clips. I'm in my kitchen, as it seemed to be the quietest place in my apartment, what with my girlfriend reading on the couch and whatnot.

I'm playing my beloved Art & Lutherie Ami guitar, which is tuned down a whole step.

  • nice guitar dude! im thinking of getting one of these(this is the acoustic right? not electro?), no shops around here sell them but i can order online.. i play fingerstyle acoustic stuff and blues but im wondering if you think the sound would be abit to harsh for fingerstyle stuff? thanks for any help

  • @mishmoshwash Sorry for this late reply! The guitar sounds great for fingerstyle (all I play), but I'd look into the Simon & Patrick versions which have thicker necks (front to back), which may be more comfortable to play. The nut width/string spacing is also a bit narrower than is traditionally desired for fingerpicking.

...It's cheap though. From what I've read, Recording King and Washburn parlour guitars are worth looking into as well, though they're more expensive and Chinese-made.

  • really cool man........Hey whats the action like on the AMI when you bought it?? High or low?

  • @BenRamble Thanks! It was low— which is good, since the thin neck profile would make a high action quite uncomfortable.

  • Nice playing on the AMI. I have a cedar as well, in blue, and while I own a whole stable of expensive instruments I really love playing the AMI. When you took iyours down a step did you require setup adjustments?

  • Thanks!

I've had it down a step with the stock .012s with no problems, but they were a bit too slack, so I just put .013s on. I don't recall having any problems at the nut, but it's always a possibility that larger strings will bind. Easy enough to solve with some gentle filing or sanding.
