When dogs mate the bulbus glandis of the penis swells inside the female and the dogs become 'locked', or tied, together for usually about 15-20mins. 2-30 is normal too. During the tie, the male released prostatic fluid. You are NOT supposed to try to seperate them, instead you sit with them in order keep them calm until they are finished. females sometimes will want to leave while the male is still stuck, which can injure him.
