The 2010 Vox AC30 hand-wired head from Vox's new handwired series is busting at the seams with authentic 60's tube tones. A quartet of EL84's brings the classic Vox chime, along with GZ34 tube rectification and a trio of 12ax7's in the preamp. This vintage circuit is hand-wired on a turret board and housed in a fawn tolex-covered birch-ply cabinet, just like they did it back in the day. The traditional Normal and Top Boost Channels are right where they should be for those unmistakeable AC30 tones, but a closer look reveal this head to be much more than a vintage reproduction. They have incorporated some very cool features into the Vox AC30 hand-wired head, including a half-power switch, a bright switch on the normal channel, bypassable Master Volume, and a footswitchable hot mode for extra gain. Stack this Vox AC30 handwired head on a Vox 2x12 cab and you have a formidable rig for any show, studio session, or late night jam.

  • Damn, at about 1:50 Andy says this amp would be good for a 'late night jam' but I want it to sound good during the day. I guess I'll look for something else.

  • Radiohead +1

  • @JACTmusic Strat -__-' You mean Telecaster!

  • Wouh, that's radiohead' Go to sleep at 1.59! And sound's awesome with that amp. :D

  • Where is this Ac30Hw made?

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos

Hmm, I thought the strat was kind of mix of Leo Fender, Les Paul and Paul Bigsby. My bad.

  • Nice sound. Check my short HiFi Ltd videos that show the sounds coming from a close cousing of the Vox AC15. Handwired in 60s with a simple mod I use the 6br7 (similar to EF86 pentode) channel or the triode channel ECC83. Also check the Pure Tone page in Facebook for more info and pics.

  • Andy, do you play in any bands? You're style is so good and you're damn gifted.

  • Gotta love it when you randomly break out the U2!!

  • @pkava1079 The difference between this and the Heritage is that these have a bypassable master volume whereas the Heritage only has a master tone cut (but they have pentode/triode switches and whatnot). Also with decent pedals, the Vox will do good with heavier rock, almost as good as a Fender. Lastly, an EL34 is basically a "British" 6L6 in warm mid based tone and slightly easier to overdrive, whereas EL84s are super small tubes that can be considered jangly compared to the 6L6

  • that tele.. the single coils.. sound.. fat.. how? what pickups are those andy?

  • I'd like to see andy play a rickenbacker through the amps sometimes
