1927. Erich Friedrich Wilhelm Ludendorff was a German Army officer, Generalquartiermeister during World War I, victor of Liège, and, with Paul von Hindenburg, one of the victors of the battle of Tannenberg. After the war, he briefly supported Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party. He was acquitted of criminal charges for his role in the Nazis' unsuccessful Beer Hall Putsch in 1923. In 1924, he was elected to the Reichstag as a representative of the NSFB (a coalition of the German Völkisch Freedom Party and members of the Nazi Party), serving until 1928. He ran in the 1925 presidential election against former commander Paul von Hindenburg and received just 285,793 votes. After 1928, Ludendorff went into retirement, having fallen out with the Nazi party. He no longer approved of Hitler and began to regard him as just another manipulative politician, and perhaps worse. After learning that Hitler had been appointed chancellor of Germany, an aging Ludendorff reportedly sent a telegram to President von Hindenburg: "By appointing Hitler Chancellor of the Reich, you have handed over our sacred German Fatherland to one of the greatest demagogues of all time. I prophesy to you this evil man will plunge our Reich into the abyss and will inflict immeasurable woe on our nation. Future generations will curse you in your grave for this action."

  • Hi, several infos are wrong:

Ludendorff was not a Generalfeldmarschall, he was a General. And name was Ludendorff not von Ludendorff. Ludendorff did also NOT run against Hindenburg in the 1925 election. After first election 1925 none of the men running for President had enough votes and there was a SECOND election for Reichspräsident in 1925: Hindeburg replaced Ludendorff and won. Ludendorff approved and SUPPORTED Hindenburg.

  • Hello Gator. The appellation of 'Generalfeldmarschall' was on the original video - same with the 'von' Ludendorff. So the error lay with the original makers of the newsreel clip.

  • I would like to give you the hint, that this scenes are from the 30th September 1923, when the memorial for the death soldiers of "Bund Oberland" in the town Schliersee was made public. So the year 1927 is wrong!!! More - with some photos from the same scenes - in german language in my blogpost "Das Oberlanddenkmal in Schliersee und seine Einweihung am 30. September 1923".

  • @MrAlGator Sounds like a typical dipshit turncoat to me.

  • Ludendorff was NOT a racist and he was NO antisemite. If you read his books you should realize he NEVER put German race over any other race and he attacked jewish religion AND catholic and protestant (and almost every other) RELIGION for cheating people but he never fought against other people Jews or not as individuals. He fought Jewish and Christian religion because he felt they enslaved people. In fact he protested when the Nazis started to fight Jews and Communists.

  • Chwała Bohaterom !

  • @skoblinI I think the video title also doesn't make sense. There was no organization called "Völkische Front", at least I can't find anything about such a movement.

  • @TemplarJustice

Whata fuck. Not all germans were racist. Many ww1 soldiers disliked the way Hitler treated the jewish war veterans.

Honour and loyalty. For example you don"t believe that president Hindenburg was an anti-semite, do you.

  • Make no mistake, Ludendorff was as racist and antisemite as other german in this period.

The only reason he disliked Hitler is because he realised Hitler was a politician like all others and not a reactionary military monarchists.

Hitler was trying to win the election, thus consulting with most powerful german industrialists and businessmen (which the reactionary despised) and Hitler also respected the lowest germans, like the workers (which the monarchists also found disgusting and "socialist

  • Perhaps his greatest quotation and prediction:

"By appointing Hitler Chancellor of the Reich, you have handed over our sacred German Fatherland to one of the greatest demagogues of all time. I prophesy to you this evil man will plunge our Reich into the abyss and will inflict immeasurable woe on our nation. Future generations will curse you in your grave for this action."

To Hindenburg after he appointed Hitler Chancellor.
