I caught the famous SP Daylight #4449 in Oaks Park, Oregon on 12/14/2008, pulling the Holiday Express train in harsh and unusual Portland winter. FYI, my encounter with the #4449 in May 2007 led to my first YouTube video.

  • Did you shoot this with a Handycam????

  • @trainboy94: Not a Sony, but a Canon handheld camcoder.

  • @cchan006 Huh then why is the widescreen where as your others aren't

  • @trainboy94: Back when this was posted, YouTube's widescreen didn't look quite right, so I went back to shooting 4:3. I also shot widescreen for the Challenger Circus Train recently. Same camera, it can do either.

  • There's something funny I noticed, is this a different camera?

All your other videos are in a square format but this one is in a regtangular format, must be a different camera, is it?

  • Same camera. I was experimenting with recording video in widescreen format, 16:9. YouTube (back then) didn't process the video quite the way I wanted, so I went back to shooting 4:3.

  • @coolsax64: Leave your cold weather bragging somewhere else. Portland Oregon does not get this much snow in one day very often. I talked to several local residents, some of them who could not attend this event due to hazardous road conditions. Yeah, I'm stupid enough to go up Donner Pass in 20' snow drifts to chase trains.

  • When a steam locomotive sits for a bit, steam in the cyclinder condenses. Opening the cylinder cocks when starting up blows out the water, which otherwise could damage the pistons.
