I think he did fall in love with Yue Ru. It's true he was still in love with Ling'er, but he wasn't aware of it.YueRu and XiaoYao's personalities were so similiar, it's almost inevitable they fell in love. I don't think he loved YueRu as much as Ling'er, but he still loved her. You could tell by how upset he was about her death, and even after she died, he named his daughter after her.

so is it like, xiao yao, just forget a part of the memory of loving ling er rit, but he did finally understand that he loved yue ru rit?

At the begining XiaoYao falls in love with Ling'er and marries her. But then he forgets their love. Once Ling'er discovered what she was, they were apart for a long time and in that time XiaoYao fell in love with YueRu. He didn't realise he loved YueRu until very near the end. Theres a bit in ep25, or something where he phrases that perfectly. But suddenly all his memory comes back and he remembers how much he loved Ling'er and he feels guilty for forgetting that.

At the same time he realises he's actually now in love with two women, and feels guilty for both. In the end YueRu sacrificed herself so that Ling'er and XiaoYao could be together, knowing how much he loved Ling'er. It's really sad. I know some people don't like YueRu and i didnt to begin with, but she really grew on me and she made the biggest character development. She was almost a different person by the end :,-(

i guess its hard to argue which girl is best for him, but Ling'er didn't want to leave him, her responsibility to her country could get him killed and Yue Ru was her perfect get away, because she knew that Yue Ru loved him. I think if you look carefully Ling'er was the one who hurt the most. Self sacrifice is hard in love, she wanted to end everything and just leave, but it was hard that's why it took so long to say goodbye at the Inn. Ling'er loved Xiao Yao, till the very of her last breath.
