I was asked by YT user Monsterdrumma about clear heads on my Ludwigs, so that was all the excuse I needed to get my ya-yas out in a new vid. I've also been playing a 4-pc kit or less lately on a bunch of sessions, and playing very simple parts (that's what the songs have called for, though) so this was an excuse to add some of the toms back and go nuts.

No real plan to this - I just sat down and "had a wank". Perhaps for the next vid I'll show that I can do more than just "solo"...

Differences in this video to previous ones: the snare is a mid-90's Keplinger stainless steel with Rogers hardware and the hihats are 14" medium Istanbul Agop Traditionals. Oh, my hair is shorter and there's less of it...

  • sick as shit dude awesome chops

  • @dahweinerslave Thanks very much!!!

  • What do you prefer Coated or Clear?

  • @DrummerVSDrums I'm definitely partial to the coated heads these days - the attack is different, a bit more pointed than the clears.

  • @ajcf1995 Ummm...okay. Sorry to disappoint. My next video I won't use mics and you can enjoy the silent drumming! Yay!!!!

  • @rumagorg666 Thanks! I'm sure I had a little EQ on the toms to pull out some boxy frequencies that close mics can sometimes bring out. I sent all the individual tracks to a parallel compression bus.

  • @bleener I am searching for new Drum Heads for my Tama Starclassic Maple Drums... And i love the sound of your Toms in this Video. When i compare the sound in this video to the others of you (with Coated Drum heads) i would prefer the Clean ones. Have you done more sound editing in this video than in the others?

  • @bertram7074 Thanks!! Glad you liked the sounds; when I shot this, I believe I had a G2 on the snare, but since then I've gone back to G1s on all my snare drums. I just like the slightly more open tone I get from the single-ply head on the snare, but I've still been using G2s on the toms, although I'm back to coated.

  • @bleener Hey Dude! I think your drums sound good - i've been using remo for about a year now, and i think im going to try out evans! going with g2 over g1 but the snare head seems to be an issue - I can't find out what to pick, so what's what you have in this vid? Sounds good.

  • those g2 heads sound so good.

  • @MrCrush352 Thanks! I play on other people's records occasionally but my work as a producer/engineer keeps me a bit too busy to play in a band these days.

The 8" is great; I don't have it set up much these days, but it's always cool when I do!

  • Nice work! Do you play in a band or as a hobby? How'd you find the 8" ludwig?
