Our Maths AA (Alternative Assessment) required us to make use of mathematical equations to make an aesthetically pleasant design, animation, or a nice picture. We came to the consensus of making an island in the middle of the ocean with sandy beaches and including a tree that seems to be growing at an alarming rate.
We used Geogebra to create it and began by making the island. We experimented with the quadratic equation, ( ax^2+bx+c ). However, the shape we got was an inverted semicircle, which was not what we wanted. We then changed the ax^2 to negative and we got a semicircle which now looked like an island. By changing the 'a' in the equation, we managed to adjust the width of the island and obtain the desired shape.
For the ocean, we made use of the equation, y=sin⁡x and managed to get the wavy pattern- to represent the moving waves of the ocean
For the moving fish and the growing tree, we had to play around with coordinates and the speed at which they were moving.
Voila, and we're done! Although mathematics is a complicated subject, we made our product so simple but yet appealing to the eye which is also related to mathematics! Enjoy!
