I managed to get this old project working again. It's basically an MP3 player that gets its files directly from a FAT32 formatted hard drive. The player reads the ID3 tag from each file to get the title, artist and genre. It outputs that info onto a LCD display along with the progress bar, time and settings. You interact with the player using an IR Sony Remote. The player supports basic features like AutoStart (resume from previous position), shuffle, repeat, play, pause, jump to next and previous tracks. The Channel +/- lets you change genre, and the Volume +/- controls the volume.

I made this back in 2000. From what I remember, I don't think there were many hard drive based standalone MP3 players back then.
