Noam Chomsky shares his insights regarding the ongoing problems confronting the beleaguered nation of Haiti, particularly the US role minimizing and undermining their economic development, resulting in horrendous destruction and loss of at least 300,000 lives from the recent earthquake. A lively Q and A session follows the talk. Benefit for Haiti at The Riverside Church of New York, June 8, 2010 sponsored by IFCO-Pastors For Peace and The Riverside Church Social Justice Ministries. • So Haiti passed from being a self sufficient agricultural country to being a country of slums and food riots, rife with sanguinary gang wars and terrible social issues.

I am coming to the conclusion that we're governed by groups of psychopaths.

  • Long Live Haiti, Long Live the Caribean, Long live Latin America, free from U.S. opression.

  • @MuminRaD1 umm there is absolutely no relationship between Ron Paul and this issue. Besides Ron Paul is a right wing "Libertarian." He supports less regulation on corporations that among other nasty things exploit natural resources and labor in the global south. He may have a non-interventionist stance when it comes to our government's foreign policy (which is a start), but he's still a very bad man.

  • then after ww2 haiti was force to pay back the loans to the anglo countries who knew they could not pay it back so they resume full control over them, then when america and russia became enemies after ww2 america helped install a dictator in the country who could do what ever he wanted to as long has they were never friendly with cuba, russia or china or any other countries america and or france did not like. this was all backed by the us government, the cia

  • haiti defeated france, the anglo slave owners, colonial powers did not like that so france told haiti if they did not pay them 90 million gold franc they would turn them in to slaves again backed by america, they were force to borrow money from america, spain, england and etc to pay france, they were force back in to the same slave conditions again, those payments to france lasted until ww2 it helped pay frances war efforts, the last payments came at the end of ww2

  • @bugufugu Yes you are an idiotic child. You will probably be one of the first to be indefinitely detained under NDAA

  • @prept77

THey are free - they just don't have the society (built on responsiblility to take advantage of their freedom.

They are children. Lost, stupid, violent, ignorant, self-torturing idiots.

    Idiots.

  • @PavedStones You're wrong, we're governed by self-interest corporate greed in U.S. As simple as that, period.

  • @demarcos69 sad but true.... our history informs us of the consequences of colonialism and the extermination of indigenous cultures that inhabitaed the US and latin america pre settlers.

  • @BLACKPUSSYPUNISHER there are some racist, bigotted people online who say some offensive stuff. I understand your frustration... I hate seeing clips on feminism and hear people say its a matriarchal conspiracy to oppress men. Some people will say anything to rationalize unequal treatment of people so long as they benefit from it. Its fucked up. But at least there are people like you and I who dont condone that bullshit. Hang in there! Your not alone!

  • The sad part is that Michel Martelly does not make a move without first consulting Bill Clinton even after this.
