Call this one finished. 6"x2' Tesla Coil-4KV MOTS-10KV caps-series 1/4" tungsten gaps. Found that this arrangement relies on a large topload capacitor. The newly added 10" sphere combined with the 2' torid topload seems to be what is needed for maximum striking range. Tungsten gaps are the cats ass. Urethaning the 2' secondary (1100 turns) repeatedly for 12 coats now has been necessary. Probably going to add a few more for confidence. This ones a wrap.

Next coil will be solid state and audio modulated. Have 9kv neon Franceformer now and caps, ready to start winding i guess.

  • @TeslaNick2 Thanks TeslaNick2! As you can see it takes me a year to reply to messages sometimes. LOL Yes, I've learned a lot in the last year or so and did move on to DDRSTC style coil. But i do still use this supply for HV experimentation and can put the secondary back on to fire it up very easy. Your right. I really should do up a rotary tungsten spark to get some real distance from this coil.

  • Your spark gap is the problem here, you have a nicely constructed coil here dude, if you improve your spark gap (use a multi-gap style) you'll get more consistant firing...
