It's Not Legally blonde's fault. RENT had poor atendence as soon as Anthony and Adam left in October. Legally Blonde has a completely different target audience as well, RENT is more targeted towards Older Teens and Legally Blonde is more of a family musical. If your gonna blaim a show blaim the "holy" spring awakening, it is the same maturity and target audience as RENT. People who see Legally Blonde have 10 year olds with them and stuff. I am sad about RENT closing and all but it had a good run

It may be that those two musicals are taking some of the attention and theatre go-ers away from RENT, but I also think it has something to do with the release of the movie. You can buy the movie for less money than a theatre ticket. But I firmly believe nothing beats live theatre and it is very sad to see such a great show with a wonderful meaning close. I wish I could have seen it live.

i agree, legally blonde is not the reason rent is closing, it is spring awakening which deals with some of the same themes and is targeted towards teh same audience. i love legally blonde and rent for completely different reasons, rent because it changed my life and is full of meaning and inspiration, and legally blonde because it makes me laugh and is clever and catchy. i am sad rent closed but i saw it twice on broadway i am am just thankful that i had that chance

Scratch that. 15 times

I've cried a total of 14 times (yes, I counted), but the full impact hasn't hit me yet. I'm still in denial.
Legally Blonde is good, but it isn't as good as RENT. Legally Blonde hasn't changed anyone's life like RENT did.

yeah but you can't buy Legally Blonde the MUSICAL

just think about it this way. Many other musicals have had long runs, and still live on. Think about other legendary shows that closed, that had an amazing run. There will still be people listening to the music. High schools and regional theatres will be able to perform it. It's not like rent is "gone forever". It still lives on.

Rent had its run- It Made a statement and inspired alot. It's time for new musicals to come in the picture anyhow. Seeing and hearing the same old thing gets tired. Keeping things fresh are what keeps things in the heart where we won't get sick of them

i love both shows i don't think it is all legally blonde there are a ton of different shows on broadway and RENT is the 7th oldest i beileve
It sucks so much that Rent is closing, I agree with you on that point, but I don't agree that it is because of Legally Blonde! If you look at the grosses for Rent over the past few years (like since 2002) Rent hasn't been doing too well! Legally Blonde hasnt been doing too bad, but its sales arent all that high, especially recently. Rent has been around for 12 years Legally Blonde only 1! It was unfortunately Rent's time, I Love this show though! I saw it in NY last July! :)

I read an article that Legally Blonde and Spring Awakening were attracting attention away from RENT, and that's why. But yeah.
