Former HS player of the year, Elena Delle Donne joined, then jilted, the women's UConn juggernaut basketball program. Then she gave up the game. The Delaware product is happily back on the court playing for her state university team. (Oct. 16)

  • I just saw this on ESPN OTL. I hope she gets her mind together...its all mental.

  • ESPN had a story today on Elena and how she gave up on UConn to be near her home and family. She has a sister who's suffering from cerebal palsy and wants to be close to her to show her support. It was very touching.

Elena has WNBA and modeling potential. She could play in the WNBA now, but will probably return to Delaware for her senior year next season. She coud be a model if she wants to, even though she's 6'5". But something tells me she has no interest in being a model.

  • @walterbrob Maybe...Injuries and other factors play into who goes number 1, but there's no question she's got a good a shot as anyone...I'm sure that who elects to draft her, will for sure get into her head and heart...Her leaving Uconn as she did, will certainly have an effect...Whether overseas or WNBA, you're gonna have to leave home...Hope she will be ready...In the end there's no DUH, it's still up to her as to where she wants her talent to take her and I still wish her Good Luck...

  • @glk001 DUH! The WNBA maybe?The no.1 pick maybe?

  • U of D is 20-1 this year because of this chick, so I say F*** UConn! She made the right decision.

  • She's a quitter...like Samarie. Delaware is not that far from Connecticut.

  • Can't blame her for the decision she made, though it came at a stiff opportunity cost to UConn, who could have recruited someone else in her stead. Obviously, the emergence of Tina Charles made it no big deal to miss out on EDD, though this year and (especially) next year, she would have been key. Glad to see she's founf peace with something that she's obviously special at.

  • an athlete with a soul. rare.

  • She would have looked so much better in Uconn blue and we would have adopted her in a heart beat...She has to do what she feels best for herself, no one can deny her that...But the experience of now two national titles and constent TV exposure with Uconn, would have given Elena such a head up...Only she knows where she will be after school but she would have so been able to do more for herself and her sister if she stuck with a program such as Uconn...Good Luck Elena!..

  • I went to my first UD women's basketball game tonight (with my dad)! Elena is REALLY good (and sexy) =p I would do unspeakable things to her in the bedroom ;)
