The Pasadena City College Tournament of Roses Herald Trumpets & Honor Band marching in the 122nd Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade on Saturday, January 1st 2011. The PCC Honor Band has marched in every single Rose Parade since 1930, making 2011 their 82nd appearance. The band is made up of members from the PCC Lancer Marching Band and studetns from 80 Southern California high school band programs who audition to earn a spot in the 250-member band.
The Herald Trumpets have traditionally preceded the Rose Queen's float for more than 30 years, heralding the arrival of the Rose Queen and the Royal Court for the entile length of the Rose Parade. The nine trumpeters are selected from more than 70 musicians who audition for the coveted spots. More than 60 percussionists audition to be awarded the one snare drummer position that marches along with them.
