France were looking for a friendly against British style opposition to prepare for world cup qualifier with Scotland. They tried to line up Liverpool first before securing the friendly with the arse. Didn't do them any good, Scotland qualified at France expense - unimaginable today.
It was my first ever Arsenal match as an 11 year old. One of my dad's mates took me... his wife must have been well over the moon.

Go fcku yourself you dick. I was making an observation, an accurate observation may I add. Get back to reading the fucking Guardian you yoghurt weaving gimp. Globalized world? Get you...I see the International Studies degree from Greenwich is kicking in. Well done you.
I was born in France, my dad is German, my mum is Irish i've worked in Europe and Asia for the past 8 years. Oh, and you are a cock. x
ps I doubt the Arsenal team would beat France now, or is that xenophobic? Fukc wit.
-
@angsta And how were the level of the team's European successes in the 80s and 90s? Right. Enough with this xenophobic rubbish - when players play on the pitch, only their skills should matter, not what country they're from. We live in a globalized world today so fucking get with the times.

This was before the advent of the premiership or as Bskyb would have you believe the start of top level football in England. Arsenal didn't buy Ukranians and Swedes but players from Leicester City, Stoke City and Leeds. They also had a youth team stacked with young English players. Even the subs are English.
-
11 Englishmen on the pitch?? Wow. How nuts is that.

Platini WAS the manager at this time - he retired from international football in 1987, aged 32. This was a France team in transition, after their great days of the early-mid 1980s and before the World Cup/Euro winning era of the late 90s. They did have Jean-Pierre Papin in the team, though...

plantini was the french national manager during this game
-
@myotheraccount57 So did Zidane from the national team after Euro 2004 but came back for the 2006 World Cup :)
-
@kooora18 oops haha didn't catch that, but he still retired from the national team in 87
Mark Overmars reckons Steve Bould was the geatest defender he ever stood on a pitch with. Seriously.

How ironic. We'd struggle to get an Arsenal first team out if we had to play France now! Lol. I am a gooner myself of twenty years rememebr like last nite when we beat Liverpool at Anfield 2-0 back in 89 Smith and Thomas legends. But comment is true. We need to get more English players in with that ruling coming into play soon. Omg......
