  • Looks good. I'm in North jersey and will be heading to Harbour freight tonight to get the 6.5. I'm replacing a 5hp tecumseh on a 22 inch MTD. Basically very similar setup you have. Nothing wrong with the 5hp, just not enough engine. It has worked fine for 17 years just very slow with the heavy snow like yesterday.

Glad to see yours is doing fine. It did'nt seem to sputter or complain at all. What gear did you have it in?

  • 1&2 this was Heavy Stuff with Ice Mixed in. It's easier to control the machine in slow gears. This Murray I purchased because the last owner blew up the 8HP Snow King. This is Perfect Match to the machine. Took under an hour for everything. 8 HP is WAY WAY too much. It's not a 32" 3 Stage Blower. You don't need all that wasted energy.

6.5 HP Harbor Freight Snow Blower Engine Swap on my MTD

  • So I installed the 6.5hp Harbour freinght engine on my 22 inch MTD. Not so easy but it works great, a huge improvement. It was a pain because the 5hp tecumseh had 2 shaft spinning in oposite directions. Also the old shaft was a little longer and that was a pain. Had to buy new pulley's and get creative in mounting the front one for the auger drive because of the shorter shaft. The other pain is that my 2 reverse are now my 2 forward's and I have 5 in reverse.

  • It's good everything lined up with the engine repower.

If that is your first blow, that's about what we had, doesn't look like the EOD was too bad.

    Spare Belts are always good.

  • how did you install it. The new engine only has one shaft?

  • The honda clone works pretty darn good
