  • Priscilla Wright was born in Ontario in 1941. "The Man In The Raincoat" was released as a 45 on the Unique label (#303) and climbed to #16 in the U.S. over a 9 week run beginning June 25, 1955 (when Priscilla was 14). It was her only hit -- and a pretty adult song for such a young girl to record so effectively. As the Unique label is long gone, copies of her 56 year old hit are hard to find. If she'd been on a bigger label, the song would probably still get reissued and airplay.

  • That was just happy people dancing and having a great time. And video too! What more could you want? :)

  • these people are SO disrespectful...talking so much and making noise. no paying attention to the singer and band. it's a wonder that anyone could hear.

  • I've been searching for this song forever! I thought it might have been called A Man in a Trencoat, thus my futile searches.

I seem to recall this song at a slower pace and more Blues than Jazz.

Still, it's great to have finally found this song which has haunted me since 1961!

  • Heard a song by this title a long time ago, but this doesn't sound like it. Another song I loved in the early '50's doesn't sound quite the way I remember it is, "Lovely One" by the Four Voices. Another Four Voices song I've been seeking out is,"Dancing with My Shadow."

I believe Ray Conniff & his Orchestra backed it up, as he did for some other singers: Johnny Mathis, Marty Robbins, etc.

  • The original record remains remarkable and Priscilla actually made numerous other outstanding singles. She's always enjoyed an international following.

  • wow.
