Payam Akhavan is Professor of International Law at McGill University. He served as the first war crimes prosecutor at the UN International Criminal Tribunals for the former Yugoslavia and Rwanda at The Hague, served with the UN in Cambodia, Guatemala, and East Timor, and appeared as counsel in leading cases including the Lord's Resistance Army Case before the International Criminal Court (Ugandan child soldiers), and as amicus curiae in Hamdi (a Guantanamo detainee) v. Rumsfeld before the US Supreme Court.
