  • oo ees the franch-accented voiceover?

  • Méliès, once a stage magician, was one of the very first filmmakers to employ special effects (stop trick, substitution, time lapse, multiple exposures, dissolves, hand-painted color).

  • it unless is first science-fiction film on world

  • Everyone should now go watch the Smashing Pumpkins "Tonight, Tonight" video and compare :)

  • Wow, this is great! Thanks for the narration!

  • At first I didn't realize how umbrella turned into musroom lol

  • So wait, did they actually go to the moon? Or are those just really amazing special effects?

  • French Filmaker, Marie-Georges-Jean Méliès (December 8, 1861 – January 21, 1938) is aptly referred to as the First "Cinemagician."

  • This film, "A trip to the moon" and "The impossible voyage" are considered to be some of the most important early science fiction films. Horror cinema can also be traced back to Georges Méliès's "Le Manoir du diable" (1896). A print of the film was acquired by Thomas Edison, who then duplicated and distributed it in the United States, where it achieved financial success; however, Edison did not pay any revenues to Méliès !!!

  • In 1913 Georges Méliès' film company was forced into bankruptcy by the large French and American studios and his company was bought out.

After being driven out of business, Méliès became a toy salesman !!!

  • The toymaker, in the 2007 Caldecott Winner (American Library Association's winner for best illustrations), "The Invention of Hugo Cabret" by Brian Selznick, turns out to be Georges Méliès !!!

This story, told in all it's artistry, is as magical as the cinemagician himself, Marie-Georges-Jean Méliès (1861–1938).
