Attempting to diminish the Cups won by the Habs during the Original Six era is absurd. If anything, expansion brought a talent dilution in the late 60's-early 70's. It was that much harder to make it to the NHL during the six-team era, thus the talent was much more concentrated. Players of lesser talent play in the 30-team NHL than the Original Six.

Thanks for your comment and I totally agree. The Forum was considered the shrine of hockey the world over as well as a venue for countless great shows over the years. There was so much history in that building.

Guys like Frank Selke, Dick Irvin, Toe Blake, Sam Pollock, Scotty Bowman were the big reasons for the Canadiens success through those times.....
Guys like Conn Smythe, Punch Imlach for the Leafs and Jack Adams for the Wings. These greats paved the way for todays management and success' of great hockey franchises.....

Pathetic original 6?? Thats crazy!! That era paved the way for todays hockey. The comment about the Habs drafting all the best players is way off. The Canadiens were formed for the local French population of Montreal in 1909, and a tradition to draft French born players only (Les Habitant). It was a system of great coaches and Gms over their history that assembled the right role players to go with the Richard's and Beliveau's. A system that demaded success and 100% team play,....

All cups won during that pathetic Original 6 / pick up league era were a joke. the Rangers and Bruins didn't win one cup during that time and the Hawks are still trying to get their 4th cup. WOW! That was some incredible competition huh! The Habs got first crack at the greatest players, the leafs 2nd and they beat the crap out of the rest of the league as if it were pros vs college kids. Funny how the Habs are invisible when there are 30 teams in the league! Nothing matters before 1980!

Class is when an arena filled with smelly frenchmen boo another countries National Anthem right! it could also be classy to riot after a hockey win or loss!

Seems to me that YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH! Look at what the Habs have accomplished before and after 1980. When the league sucked they where "great". There was really not much competition. The Hawks, Rangers and Bruins won a total of 7cups from 1940 till today! NYR and Bruins did not win one single cup during that 25 yr Original 6 / pick up league! America gave two shits about hockey back then. It was basically shuffle board with hitting from the start till the mid 60s. DOOO DAAA DOOO!
