1) Perhaps they were identified by ignorant people as emo but that's not emo. That's called depression.

2) Is a pop culture expert really qualified to speak about pyschological problems such as cutting? This is an honest question.

3) Do the parents even think, hey maybe it's me? All they do when they monitor their children's activity is drive them further away. Leave them be for the most part and they might grow out of it (not to say you grow out of depression but rather just fitting in)
