48151 slogs the 1 in 50 climb over Upwey Bank

"An LMS 8F over Upwey Bank? That should be something." The words that came into my head when seeing the itinerary for the run. Steam Dreams once again ran the Cathedrals Express this time from London Waterloo to Weymouth via the South Western Main Line, return via the Heart of Wessex Line to Yeovil Junction and finally to Waterloo via the West of England Main Line. West Coast Railway's locomotive 8F 2-8-0 No. 48151 'Gauge O Guild' took charge of the Weymouth to Yeovil section. This meant that a notorious climb up Upwey Bank would bring on a show.

The 8F can be seen slogging up the 1 in 50 climb with its 10 coach load on both sides of the tunnel with a fine clag and sound to add to it all.

For all LMS 8F fans who have longed to see 48151 challenge a more steeper hill climb this is a treat for you.

That is what 8Fs were made for, and it is probably thinking of the days spent slogging up to Peak Forest.

I really didn't think preservation could be as good as this ! A really gritty performance, and if anybody thinks that 8Fs attacking banks in Dorset is just a piece of theatre, I can remember one coming out of Poole and going up Parkstone Bank with a pigeon special from the S&D.

Great video, that loco is a brilliant performer and must have gained a whole new army of fans with some great performances on the Southern tracks.
